How to Batch Like A Boss

You may follow some bloggers or brands you admire online and have heard them talking about batching on certain days of the week. Now, you may be sitting there scratching your head, “huh?” but don’t worry, you’re not alone. Many digital marketers have begun batching, but may not explain to you exactly what this means. So here it is:

Batching is a term used for taking a set amount of time each day, week, or month, to devote to a specific task. Maybe this means planning out your social media posts for the week, writing you newsletters or blog posts for the month, or creating content for various purposes. Seems simple enough right? But why should you be batching your tasks?

So how do you start batching your content? We suggest beginning with brainstorming ideas. What do you want your theme to be for the next month? What subjects are you looking to focus on in your upcoming newsletter series? These are important questions to ask about your business. If you need, look to other businesses or brands you admire for inspiration to get the creative juices flowing. Write down all your great ideas then pick your top three, narrow it down from there. (Maybe you have two great ideas, even better! You can use the second one later on.)

What is your purpose on social media? Do you feel like you sometimes deviate from this and aren't sure how to pull yourself back? Batching your content and posts will help you stay on track, for one big reason: it forces you to make a PLAN. Without a real plan, your social media has real potential to be all over the place. It is so important when people visit your page or read your newsletters, they can immediately know what you do and how you can help them. If you’re aimlessly posting, the purpose gets a little blurry.

Next, set aside a set amount of time you are going to do this task and stick to it! Doing tasks in shorter amounts of time allows for better creativity, we don’t want your content getting stale because you can’t focus. If you don’t finish your task in the set amount of time, don’t worry! Take a break and then schedule yourself another batching session later in the week.

After you have your content created, put it together, and see how it flows. Do your proofing and make edits where necessary. It's easier to make changes before you post to the world wide web. If you’ve batched your Instagram posts, check out how the pictures look together, as they will be the first thing people see when they visit your feed.

Finally, you're ready to schedule your posts!

So, there you have it. Simple enough right? I’ll be honest, batching is a lot of work, but so is figuring out your plan last minute.
